Each year I get my free annual credit report from annualcreditreport.com to check on the status of the open credit accounts that I have been paying on as well as the accounts that have been paid off. Its a good idea to pull your own credit (especially the once a year free one) before making any big purchase. For instance, my wife and I are going to be car shopping in the near future. Rather than just accepting the dealerships stance that we can't get 0% financing due to a glitch on our credit or a late payment, I'll pull my annual credit report beforehand and won't end up with any surprises at the dealership.
